Disability • SSI • Greater San Diego Area

Kathleen E. Holden, Attorney at Law  has practiced solely in the area of Social Security Disability and SSI since 1999.  Her experience with the government bureaucracy, the medical community and the administrative court system make her an effective advocate at earning benefits for her clients.

When you arrange your free consultation with the law firm of Kathleen E. She will take the time to explain the application and appeals process, and keep you informed as your case makes its way through the system.

Ms. Holden serves clients throughout San Diego County, including South Bay, Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, Bonita, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos, and East County, El Cajon, La Mesa, Spring Valley, La Jolla County, North County and the surrounding areas.

Social Security Disability
Social Security Disability Income, or SSDI, was established to provide income for workers who become permanent injured or disabled before the normal age for collecting Social Security benefits, and are unable to return to work.

Monthly payments come from the Social Security payroll taxes that you paid into the system over the years as protection in case you became disabled.  You have a right to these benefits! This is not welfare, but your money that the government set aside for exactly this reason. The amount of your benefits is based on your prior earnings and the amount of Social Security taxes you paid into the system over the years.

Supplemental Security Income
This is a needs-based program created by the federal government as an additional safety net for those people whose SSDI payroll contributions were too low to amount to significant monthly checks.  People with very low income may be eligible for Supplement Security Income (SSI) benefits in addition to their SSDI.

The definition of “disability” is the same for both SSDI and SSI.  Only the income requirements are different.

Health Benefits
If you are determined to be eligible for SSDI, you are also automatically approved for Medicare federal health benefits.  Likewise, if you qualify for SSI because of low income, you will automatically qualify for California’s state medical assistance (MediCal).  This makes it even more important to hire an attorney to win approval for SSDI / SSI.

A lawyer like Kathleen E. Holden who practices solely in Social Security Disability and SSI offers your best hope of approval, as she is familiar with administrative law process and the government bureaucracy that holds the power to approve or deny your claim.
